What is ACBC Certification?

The Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC) is a biblical counseling organization created to equip people in utilizing Scripture to address problems people face. ACBC seeks to strengthen the Church to speak the truth in love by providing a quality training and certification process, a global network of like-minded individuals and institutions, and a source of practical and biblical resources for the Church.

The Master’s University has partnered with ACBC as a Certified Training Center to equip students to counsel biblically and receive ACBC certification. The Master of Biblical Counseling program provides a fully integrated pathway through all three phases of the ACBC certification process, culminating in ACBC certification upon program completion.

The Three Phases of ACBC Certification

Through the Master of Biblical Counseling program, students will complete all three phases of ACBC certification.

The MABC foundational classes fulfill ACBC’s Fundamentals training. You will complete the required reading and counseling observation hours directly within your MABC classes. After finishing these courses, you will take the ACBC Membership Seminar to officially receive your Fundamentals Certificate.

Throughout the program, you will answer ACBC’s required theology and counseling exam questions as part of your regular coursework, receiving professor feedback to refine your answers.

You will complete 50 sessions of real-world counseling, split across two practicum classes. An ACBC-certified fellow will supervise your counseling and provide direct guidance.

Upon successful completion of your hours and your supervisor’s official recommendation, you graduate fully eligible for official ACBC Certification.

Students who already have full ACBC Certification may be eligible for Advance Standing.
